Fernley Depot Community Campus

Land Plot Version 1.png

In 2017, the City of Fernley purchased ~8.5 acres around the historic Train Depot on Main St. with the vision of building a Community Center in the heart of Fernley. This purchase was made with revenue brought in through the Fernley Convention and Tourism Authority.

The City of Fernley and Lyon County worked together to develop this conceptual rendering of the property to include a brand new Senior Center and Human Services offices in the southeast corner of the property. This part of the project is already funded through Lyon County’s budget and a gift from the William N. Pennington Foundation.

The Fernley Community Foundation’s main short-term objective is to raise funds and help support the development and production of this whole project, which has been named the Fernley Depot Community Campus.

Phase I

The first phase of this project has already been funded and will include the new Senior Center and Human Services offices, parking, utility connections, and landscaping in the southeast section of the property. We hope that the rehabilitation of the Depot building will also be completed in this phase, funded by Community Development Block Grants. Projected completion: 2020

Phase II

The second phase of this project will be focused around the Outdoor Multi-Purpose Area. We hope to create approximately 2 acres of usable outdoor space for concerts, food truck events, weddings, fitness activities, and other gatherings. We hope that this phase will also include a stand-alone restroom facility funded through a Community Development Block Grant. Proposed completion: 2021

Phase III

The third phase is the most important and most expensive. We hope to build the main building in our Community Campus, which will include a new home for our Boys and Girls Club, a community gymnasium, and a convention/events center. We will be welcoming community input about the design of this building and the rest of the Campus in the coming year. Proposed completion: 2024
